How to Take Care of a Sick Baby

There is nothing worse than when your baby is sick, and you are going to want to know how to properly take care of them. It is important  if your baby ever becomes sick – and all of us who are already parents know how often this happens – that you will know what to do.

Firstly you need to remain calm and focussed to care of a sick baby. By doing this the sick child will feel  assured that you are looking after them. If you panic then your baby will sense it and become even more distressed. Giving out the loving caring “know what I am doing” feelings will help your child relax and allow his immune system fight the infection,

Basically the first thing that you are going to want to do in regards to taking care of a sick baby is to determine whether or not the baby is actually sick. The first and most important sign is that the baby will have a fever, and so if they do then you can pretty much tell that the baby is sick because a fever is the body’s way of letting you know that there is something wrong.

Once you can tell that they have a fever, than you are going to have to really know how to take care of a sick baby. The first thing that you are going to want to make sure that you do is have them cooled down a bit, and so you don’t want them overheating so you are going to want to make sure that they are in light clothing and that they have a cool facecloth if they need it.

As well, you are going to want to make sure that you keep them hydrated, and so this means making sure that they get plenty of fluids and that they are eating well also, and depending on how old the baby is, this will obviously determine what you can and cannot feed them; if the baby is still young enough that they are only on milk, then make sure they get plenty of milk, whereas if the baby is older then you can give them soup or something like that in order to keep them eating.

You will need to bring your baby to the doctor regardless of how old they are if they have a fever, just to make sure, because there are so many different things that can go wrong with babies. Your doctor will advise you how to take care of your sick baby. Don’t forget he is very experienced in child illnesses and it is definitely better to be safe than sorry.
